Hello, back from the tedious exams,
So today the topic is selfishness...
Selfish can be view as acts that have only one's interest in mind regardless of others. To me, selfishness should be viewed as a natural instinct of human nature. No one should be blamed for acts that seem selfish, except if the act is really kind of demeaning and degrading one's self worth. First and foremost, the basis of selfishness is respect. Respect is an honour given to us no matter whether we deserve it in the first place. But the problem is does selfishness really degrade perception of one of others? We are motivated to pave a comfortable road for us to ride on in life... this is mostly true when we bring in the Darwinian view of life- the fittest survive. Even those who seem to be a hero could just be someone who wants to gain personal fame and glory in return. Even so, this can be justified as a moral act in view of selfishness motivating factor we have initially. One classic example is those firefighter heroes who sacrificed their life to save people who were trapped in twin towers in 9/11. Even the satisfaction from a good/heroic deed done can be deemed as selfish? but just like what I've said, it is a justifiable act. We act on rationale, a frame of combination of common sense and personal preference to influence our judgement. To me, this is the root of all problems. Rationale is like reasons for actions taken in a logical sense. The main thing is that if we really provide a reason for everything we do, there can be never-ending issues and the worst is we become more skeptical of the good intentions people have.
hmmm, thats all...
